After the Oakland hills fire of 1991, Marin County organized itself for fire prevention. FIRESafe Marin is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing wildland fire hazard and improving fire-safety awareness in Marin. It meets monthly, and attempts to include representatives from each community in Marin. Its website has information about fire in Marin, links to maps such as the one below showing firebreaks, descriptions of particular fire training activities, suggestions about landscaping with fire resistant plants and where to place natives in the garden, tips on tree maintenance, home design and more.
